Hi everyone.

I’m using FMOD Soundbank Generator 4.33.00 to try and write a new FSB file for the game "World of Tanks", trying to get some replacement voices into the game.

I extract the stock FSB, so all the original sounds are in their own directory, and replace the voices I want replaced. All’s good. So I fire up the Soundbank Generator and set it up (IMA ADPCM, Encode sync points, Enable Looping) and, using the "Add audio files" button, I load up the library. I’m looking at all 480-ish WAV files loaded up into the library. All looks good, orders are correct, etc.

When I push the "Build" button, the program goes thru the build process and completes, building the FSB file.

However, if I extract that FSB file I just created (I was having issues with voices not playing in the game), the entire FSB file is filled with files with no extension.

Example:

I loaded "start_battle_01.wav" into the soundbank generator. Hit build, and then extract the FSB it just built, and instead of "start_battle_01.wav", the new FSB contains "start_battle_01" with no file extension. It’s no longer a WAV file.

Anyone know why the WAV files are dropping their extensions when the new FSB file is created? I’m lost.

The FSBank library was rewritten somewhat recently, in the new version we do not store the extension since it isn’t really useful, hence the difference between the old and new FSB. I wouldn’t worry about the difference though, I doubt the game would be using the names in any meaningful way.

I’m using a utility called FSBExtract to extract the FSB file.

When I extract the [b:1aq09kpq]default[/b:1aq09kpq] FSB file from the game to a directory, I get a directory full of WAVs. start_battle_01.wav, etc. 480-some-odd files.

I load these up into the new soundbank library and build the new FSB, but if I use FSBExtract to extract the FSB I just made (In FMOD), there are no WAV extensions.

Howcome there’s WAV extensions on the original FSB when I extract it, but not on the one FMOD creates? And is there any way to keep FMOD from appending those extensions? I’m pretty sure the game needs them.

When names are stored in the FSB the path information is removed from the front of the file name, and the extension is removed from the end. If you are using a tool to extract the data and put them in .wav files you could simply append the .wav extension yourself.
