I am having trouble with the recording function using Fmod 3.62.
My system consists of an Asus A7N266 motherboard, 256Meg ram and Windows 98 (first edition). I can use windows recorder so I know the hardware works.
After seeing the post by “codestar” on Sunday, I downloaded version 3.61 of Fmod, but recording on that doesn’t work either.
Playing sounds with Fmod work, but sometimes appear distorted (or noisy). I’ve only just started using this application so I’m not sure what causes the distortion, but using windows own players causes no problems.
When using the record sample, I get the choice of 2 drivers, direct sound or windows multi-media. Regardless of choice the application gets down to “press a key to start recording…” and bombs out. Errors are “not enough memory” if I use direct sound, or “hardware channel not supported…” if I use the windows multi-media setting.
Thankyou for providing your product for free to us, and look forward to some help.

If the April 6 DLL didn’t work, then the April 9 one probably won’t either, considering I was the main reason for it–setting MIDI volume in hardware synth mode wasn’t working, so Brett added a workaround and released the DLL again. I don’t think anything else changed.
😥 I tried using various modes, and the FSOUND_SetBufferSize(200), but it still wouldn’t work.
I do suspect the drivers, as the win98 versions aren’t user friendly and the specifically mention second edition, not the first.
I will experiment with later versions of Windows over the weekend, and see if this fixes the problem, else it’ll be a new sound card.
😀 Yippee, using Windows 2000 fixes the record problem.
😕 One issue though, using the Fmod demo, if playing a file and another program is brought into focus, the sound stops but the player keeps going? Is this related to the driver also?
thanks for the reply, but I downloaded 3.62 on Monday, after the initial problem was fixed. The dll I have is dated 6th April 2003,2:38:02pm.
Oops, I’ve just downloaded again, but this time the dll is dated 9th April. Sorry about that, I’ll try again tonight.
