I’ve searched the forums and found a couple of posts mentioning the SB Extigy, including one which says Brett himself uses one.

I’ve got one, and whenever I try to use FMOD to play anything through it nothing happens. The FSOUND_Init function doesn’t fail, and I can call FSOUND_Stream_OpenFile and FSOUND_Stream_Play to play something, I just don’t here it. If I disconnect my Extigy (either by pulling the plug, turning off or safely disconnecting) it works fine using my onboard sound.

I’ve just updated the drivers to the latest ones, following a suggestion in the previous post.

Any other suggestions?

Hmm, the plot thickens.

I tried both your ‘stream’ examples and they didn’t work :(, unless I chose my internal sound card as the driver to use. The ‘simple’ example works on the Extigy playing a MIDI file but not a MOD file. Even when I set the acceleration to basic or none I hear nothing.

My program does just play an MP3 file. No 3D effects or nothing.

Before I went to bed last night even DirectX Diagnostics wasn’t working, I wake up this morning and everything is fine… all works!

Oh well, that’s Windows XP for you :)

Perhaps that’s what it was the whole time–you needed to reboot the system (no, hibernation doesn’t count). It happens, even on the most stable of operating systems.

LOL… I’ve rebooted loads, but I actually went away and left it turned off for 24hrs this weekend, that might have been it.
