Hi brett,

Have you thought of adding a new mixer that supports SSE instructions?

An SSE based mixer would be a little more ideal than an MMX mixer (masked behind the fpu, context switching penalties, and all of that) on a P3, P4, Celeron2, and the new Duron/Athlon CPUs

Just a suggestion

I think SSE and 3dNow! are better for 3d transformations than sound processing. And they’re always floating point instructions…
Probably they will help mp3 decoding, but dunno… Brett has the last word

Excuse me if I change the original post, but maybe a super-hi-quality cubic spline interpolation can bring overall quality higher. Brett seems to be a heavy coder :smile:

Ouch! 20% cpu is high… Modplug player cubic spline mixer routines uses at maximum 4% of cpu on my Atlhon 800, with MMX. However a bad fpu will lower speed (not case of mine :smile:

No? Modplug player says “Cubic spline”… 😕

However cubic interpolation sounds pretty good and seems to be fast… It has also a 256 point interpolation.

Oh, well… probably I read bad…
However, does simple linear interpolation take two samples and interpolates it?
If you use “cubic” interpolation, should we take three samples? Are them last samples (i.e.: for linear I take current sample and current-1 sample, for cubic I take current, current-1 and current-2, is it correct?)?
