Hey all,

I just finished an alpha version of my player. I’m have a lot of work in the new playlist, which is very different from the average playlist in media players.

I was hoping you guys could give me your opinion on the playlist.

[url=http://www.unreal2-hq.com/Downloads/GVPlayer.zip:2yxkq6sl]here is where you can download the zip file[/url:2yxkq6sl]

Here is how it works:

Right click on the list and select ‘Edit songlist’ in the popup menu. In the explorer section of the playlist editor go to the directory where you have your media files. Select the files that appeared in the list and edit them if you like. You’ll need to enter the album and group of the files yourself. This will change though when I implented the tag components.

Now click on add all to add them to the playlist. and hit the exit button.

The List now contains a treeview with the media files you added. to play a song simply double click on the song. When the song hits the end it will play again simply because it’s the only song that is in the playlist. if you want to add other songs in the list to the playlist, select them and hit the spacebar. They should turn dark blue. To remove them hit Delete.

That’s it. Let me know what you think of it.

Thanks.

I don’t think many people would like to go through a tree to play a file. It’s just like using Windows Explorer, IMHO.

You need to allow the users to add an entire directory. You need to make the playlist items more legible. Also, create an icon for you application even though it is the alpha version.

The interface is alright, but I think it’s a bit to big and bulky, especially the Edit Songlist form, its HUGE!! Anyways, the playlist is alright, I dont see anything wrong with using a tree for the playlist, it makes it a bit compact, which I like, but I think the actual playlist is too large!! That’s just my oppinion. Other than that, after all of the functionality is put in, (EQ, Effects, etc.) it will be nice!

Well, I love the treeview myself, for the ones who just want a list of all music files, they will be able to choose that too in the future. IMO a list of all files is just really messy. And it’s way to hard to find a specific song If you have lots of music files.

You mean including all subdirectories, right? Well, you’re right, putting that on my todo list right now.

That mostly depends on the skin you use. I’ll keep it in mind

Actually you can’t call it an alpha yet, but don’t worry the beta and final versions will have an icon.

I agree with the song editor being too big. I will reduce its size.
The size of the playlist depends on the skin that is being used. Perhaps I could add a feature so people can resize the window. That would however mess up the current skin a lot.

Thanks. I’m not sure though if I will put an equilizer or other effects in it. I’m trying to keep the memory and CPU usage as low as possible. How many people do you think will actually use those things?

Thanks for the comment and the suggestions, guys. :)
Feel free to write some more. I’d appreciate it.
