Is there a way to use multiple sound cards simultaneously? I’m creating a dj mixing console and need to have one soundcard for output and another for the headphones/cueing device. Will FMOD support this?

Thanks,
Kim

Hey!

This is a question I am asking also, but I also need the information if I have 2 seperate fmod running with 2 different listener-positions. I hope, we get a answer soon!

ah, I just answered about the same question in another topic…
I hope two soundcard support will be possible soon!
I have successfully implemented using two streams for dj stuff, one located at the rear for headphone only, and one just in 2D.
The reason is DX8 limitation that you cannot play a stereo sound in 3D. Because I think stereo is somewhat important for the listener, I play the sound that goes to the speakers in 2d, with the drawback that it is also played in the headphones.
The 3d stream for the headphones is always played in mono.

I think for any 5.1 sound cards, it would still be best to put them in 4 speaker mode, because you want real positioning between the 2 outputs.
If you would use 5.1 output, it might be that the user configured it so that bass is redirected to the subwoofer output, but that would also mean the bass of the headphone would be redirected to the subwoofer.

Just having a single soundcard for each channel that plugs into the mixer works well. That way I can use older sound cards without all the fancy 4 and 5 channel support. It would be nice if FMOD had support for changing the sound card on the fly

Food for thought!

Thanks,
Kim
