I play cds and suddenly playback stops so the track has not ended (I want to end fmod after track is ended).
(Please note that I cannot reproduce this with fmod player as fmod player refuses my CD in drive ‘N:’…)

I have this problem with 3.6x and 3.7x (tryied newest fmod.dll downloaded a few minutes ago to asure this has not yet been fixed)

I reported this but this problem couldn’t be reproduced… ok,
But I know now 2 other persons having the same problem, and discussed about. Should be because we all have at least 2 CD-drives ?
(Problem occurs on any drive, and time after which track ends seems constant for each track (not tested if constant for track xx on different CDs)
The CD(s) I tested are Digital Audio CDs without any copy-protection. Not tested with CDDA.

Still same problem, times are the same :(
Have you tested on a computer with 2 or more cd-drives? (my brother who did lot’s of programming around virtual-cd-drivers thinks it should be a problem when having more than one drive)

Ok, I’ve put up a new test program for you to try out.

[url:2voi7e1t]http://www.fmod.org/files/cdtest.zip[/url:2voi7e1t]

Run it and play the first track off your “Alizee – Moi Lolita” CD. This program creates a small file called “fmod.log” which I need you to email to me at andrew@fmod.org.

Oh, and yes, I’ve tested on systems with multiple CD drives. Still can’t reproduce the problem.

Thanks for your help controller!

CDDA Api changed in the 3.7x version of fmod, do you use the old CDDA Api (it is still usuable). The new API is far more robust/complete and you can play cdda as it was a stream.

Problem solved. Windows 98 was showing its 16bit roots. :roll:

A new dll is available here :

Thanks for all your help Controller!

I’m not using cdda, just these functions (and only these for CD-Audio)
FSOUND_CD_Play, FSOUND_CD_Stop, FSOUND_CD_SetPlayMode, FSOUND_CD_SetPaused, FSOUND_CD_GetTrack, FSOUND_CD_SetTrackTime, FSOUND_CD_GetTrackLength, FSOUND_CD_GetTrackTime

Use the FSOUND_Stream** function, read the cdda example, it show how it works.

Hm, was quite easy to add cdda support, I always wanted to include this.
However, now I can only use ONE CD drive, the first one (Windows 98), but I want to use all.
Furthermore, cdda stutters with my primary cd drive (toshiba 6x dvd / 40x cd witch supports 8x cdda reading (tested with windac in burst mode without problems).
I removed my toshiba temporaly to use my good old teac (24x CD and 24x cdda reading) where it works well… but not everybody has a teac drive
My third drive, a sony recorder (24x CD reading), which is years newer than my teac (about 2-3 years old now) only supports 12x cdda reading

However, I added cdda support for my program instead of replacing the old functions, and it would be the easiest if you can find out the problem with FSOUND_CD_*** functions, or extend your cdda to support multiple drives in Win9x (aspi), if that is possible

How long before the end of the track does it stop playing? Minutes? A few seconds? Is it always the same amount of time?

Track 1 always after the same time, Track 2 always after the same time,…
Time differs from each track from 2secs until about 1-2mins.

I just retested the same cd I used some days before with same drive, and times are the same from last time tried (track 2 skipped after ~ 2secs);
I retried Track 2 with my second drive, and it’s the same time.

When using an other cd, the times are different

(tested without cdda-support, of course)

Hope this helps you find the problem, if required I’ll try more audio cds and even give exact (track) times, …

Can you give me a list of track times for one CD and also the times when the tracks stop playing? For instance :

Track 1 : 3:30 stops at 3:02
Track 2 : 3:15 stops at 3:10
Track 3 : 4:25 stops at 4:15
etc. etc.

Thanks controller.

Drive 1: Teac 24x CD Rom drive (N:, 24x audio if used for cdda) Secondary (master or slave)
Drive 2: Sony 12x CD Recorder (R:, 12x audio if used for cdda) Secondary (master or slave)
Drive 3: Toshiba DVD (40x CD) (M:, 8x audio if used for cdda) Primary master

CDs are all CD-Digital Audio without copyprotection

Values generated by adding small routine that adds additional log file entries;
Position is the last valid position BEFORE cd stops (after stopped, return 0);
As this values will be checked only, the value may differ +/- 1 second
Formated time: hh:mm:ss.ms
Time at beginning of line is the time the log entry was written, as tracks were
sometimes not played from beginning to end, I sorted them!

Thanks for your help controller. I still haven’t been able to reproduce the problem here. Can you do me a favour and try this small test program please?

[url:1a5imv2h]http://www.fmod.org/files/cdtest.zip[/url:1a5imv2h] (170k)

Can you run this program and tell me if the same problem occurs and, if so, if the abort times are exactly the same as before. You can specify a drive letter on the command line to choose different drives i.e. “cdaudio d” to choose d:\

Thanks a lot controller!
