I’m starting to use fmod on linux for an internal project, and I need to parse the sample data from a file to build a waveform view ala sound editing programs….

I’ve already got a pretty good idea of how to do it (take maximum amplitude in the range and display bar on both sides to that amplitude), but I do need to know what format FMOD treats 8bit buffers? Is it the standard unsigned format (I need to take the magnitude of 128-sample) or in a signed format (much easier).

Also, feel free to point me to a better method :) (or tell me I’m wrong, because I just started this stuff :P).

EDIT: Or for that matter can I have the input mode setting for signed/unsigned override it in FSOUND_Sample_Load?

Thanks in advance,
Adruab

So if I’m uploading from a file, it will automatically get the format from the file, and then convert it to the one I passed? (specifically any file to signed 8bit)

I ask because there is at least one exception listed in the documentation (loading 8bit file will not conver to 16 bit).

Thanks,
