1 – there are some in the FMOD zip package,
2 – No, Directound != Fmod !
DirectSound is an API providing easy acces to soundcards. From DOS, we had to play with irq, dma and register and then code our driver for each card. DirectSound has unified that plus some functionnality like 3D Sound, effects … Fmod is a soundsystem library providing the capability to play with MUSIC FILE (not the soundcard) : we can play different format, use different driver (DirectSound or Winmm …), let us to choose the mixer … It s on top of DirectSound and facilitate sound programming for games, demos …

Practically, it makes adding some sort of sound/music to your program a LOT easier, so you can use the latest features of DirectSound, while also remaining backward compatible with WinMM withouth having to change your code.
Fmod also decodes and plays various types of sound and music files, and does all the managing of channels and stuff.

And OpenAL for Windows still uses DirectSound. :smile:
