Hi all,

I’m having some problems with fmod’s rendition of my MP3 collection. They sound ‘distorted’, is the only way I can describe it.

WindowsXP reports my soundcard is an on-chip Creative AudioPCI(ES1371,ES1373). I’ve also heard this effect on another system running Win2K (not sure about the soundcard on this system), so I’m questioning my code (below). The same MP3 files play just fine in Media player or RealPlayer.

Help!!!

thanks,

dom.

FSOUND_SetBufferSize(2) ;
FSOUND_SetOutput(FSOUND_OUTPUT_DSOUND) ;
FSOUND_SetDriver(0) ;
FSOUND_SetMixer(FSOUND_MIXER_AUTODETECT)FSOUND_Init(65535, SW_CHANNELS, 0)FSOUND_SetSFXMasterVolume( 128 );
FSOUND_SetVolume( FSOUND_ALL, 128 );
FSOUND_Stream_OpenFile(…, FSOUND_LOOP_NORMAL, 0) ;
FSOUND_Stream_Play(0, …)

Brett,

I was setting volume to half, as I thought that perhaps the distortion I was hearing was due to fmod defaulting to maximum output levels; it wasn’t.

Have you experienced the distortion that I’m talking about? It’s really quite a shame – but it doesn’t seem to happen on all soundcards – when I plug in an Aureal Vortex 8330 I don’t remember hearing it.

I’ll try the code you suggested and post back in a few hours with results.

Thanks,

dominic.

Brett,

Thank you so much, that sound distortion has gone away; I just removed the three function calls you recommended.

Thanks,

dm.
