I want to do some serious audio revising to my carsim in the future. For the main (driver) car, I want to use several sounds, like wind, tire-road, gearwhine, turbo-whine, and ofcourse an engine sound.
The engine sound will be split into 4 probably; 1 for deceleration, and 3 for accelerating (low/medium/high engine speed). So I’ll mix from low to medium for example for a range of the engine rpm. Now when fully into medium, 2 samples are unused. If I set the volume to 0, will this be optimized to not contribute to the resulting audio stream, or should I explicitly turn off the samples myself when I detect that volume=0?
As I intend to mix about 6 samples this way, it would be a shame to waste too much CPU power on mixing in 2 of the 3 engine sounds that are mostly silent.
