I’m creating a player with Fmod as audio engine. Now I have this problem. I can’t play WMA with licence attached to it.

Does Fmod support this. If yes …… how.

I hope someone can help me.

Check if your wma(s) currently work on your computer, if yes they should work with fmod.dll too.
Well, actually there’s no garantee… I have encountered a lot of problems with wma/wmv engine… and even when these files work with media player, it’s not sure they run with other software.
But why do you even use WMA, especially those with licences?
The only reason for using wma/wmv is to sell music for money but ensure the repliciant can’t copy/redistribute it. But I don’t think there’s any need for it… :)
And if you are the repliciant: Learn your lesson, delete the wma, buy the CD, and ripp it in quality-5 Ogg Vorbis (higher quality than mp3/wma, especially on / lower bitrates, open source, and supported on almost any better softwareplayer)

I get you point but agree with Controller.

Would be nice to tell people your player plays those stupid files too.
And I am sure FMOD would play them if they handled the WMA playing
by their own engine.
But you know that one company called uh Microsoft I don’t think it is
giving datasheets away of the format especially not those protected ones.

Get rid of those files, buy the CD or vinyl, and rip it, Ogg Q5 or Q6 are perfect.
winLame is a nice tool to really easy convert wav files to Ogg in Windows
( http://winlame.sourceforge.net/ )
Or make a FLAC out of it (same makers as Ogg but this format is losless).

Disadvantage of FLAC, FMOD is not able to play them.
(Oh yes, this is indeed a silent suggestion to the FMOD authors.) ๐Ÿ˜‰

Succes

With this [url=http://www.fmod.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2712:26hn47zd]addon[/url:26hn47zd] you can play Flac/MPC/APE files :)

How can this addon be used in Delphi/VB?
Looks like a really good thing to have!

Thanks in advance.

I’ve made a dll and unit for delphi its included in the zip:
http://home.tiscali.nl/tanaskoski/FMODS … E_FLAC.zip.
But the playback isn’t very stable because small stream buffers. :(

Good Luck

Chris

Thanks a lot Chris! This is superb. I’ll try it immideately.
Btw. the buffer problem you mention, is is only related to VB/Delphi, or is it a common problem not depending on the language used?

It’s not language related at all, it just coded for small buffers ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks KarLKoX and Chris, I am going to try that addon soon.
(I ain’t getting e-mail notifications when a reply is posted. Though I got it enabled in both my profile and on this thread.)

Would be really great to see FLAC/MPC/APE supported in the next FMOD.
Maybe put it in 3.74 so we could stress test it before you implement it in 4.

As said, going to give that addon a shot, FLAC support is great.

Edit:
Woopsy, just read FLAC support is going to come with FMOD 4 as said on in this thread: http://52.88.2.202/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2712
It will be a plugin, can’t it be made a native supported fileformat?
