FMOD Licenses

FMOD products are available under a number of license types, typically based on “budget”. Budget is defined as the cost of developing your product to the point of shipping.

Please note, FMOD does not include a free license to distribute MP3 in your product – please refer to MP3 Licensing Issues. For more information or to proceed with licensing FMOD, email Sales

Non Commercial / Educational

  1. Excludes any Commercial Use specified under the terms of a Commercial License, FMOD may be used free of charge.
  2. FMOD is free for use by teachers and students in both public and private education institutions.
  3. Non Commercial use requires attribution in the form of a Credit Line.
  4. Non Commercial use is subject to the terms of the EULA included with FMOD download package.

FMOD Commercial License

  1. All commercial use of FMOD requires a Commercial License (even with free Indie license). contact Sales for more information.
  2. Commercial use includes both direct and indirect monetization of a product including, but not limited to, activities such as product testing and promotion, training, simulation, exhibition.
  3. FMOD is licensed on a Per Game/Title (Product) and Per Platform Basis.
  4. The license fee depends on the Product Development budget (see table below).
  5. A Platform is defined as the target hardware/software system on which the Product is intended to be run. Licensable platforms include: Windows, Mac, Linux, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Wii U, iOS, iOS HD, Apple TV, Android, Windows Phone 8, Windows Store, Universal Windows Platform (UWP).
  6. In the case of iOS, iPhone and iPad are treated as separate Platforms if the Product is monetized separately. (eg. HD version sold separately).
  7. To redistribute FMOD as part of an SDK or engine, a special license is required. Please contact Sales.

Credit Requirement

When using FMOD, a credit line is required in either documentation, or ‘on screen’ format (if possible). It should contain the words ‘FMOD Studio’ (for FMOD Studio) or ‘FMOD’ (for FMOD Ex), and ‘Firelight Technologies’. Logos are available for box or manual art, but are not mandatory.
