I’ve got an event that auditions in the designer just fine but will not play back in our game on the PC. Xbox 360 seems to work fine and the PC event will work if I set the event to 2d instead of 3d in the designer. Is there some silly init flag I’ve missed on the PC side??

try setting the relevant wavebank to ‘force software’ and let me know, does that change anything? I’m fairly sure the auditionclient forces it to software. It may be a sound driver issue – in this case you would probably get an error being returned from an fmod function – are you checking all return codes?
