I’m getting consistent crashes in Designer. It happens when I click on a bank in the bank tab and I haven’t built sound banks recently for that project. Designer crashes when it tries to build the file list. If I reopen the project, build (or rebuild) banks, then it builds the file list without crashing and I can preview sound files.
I’m running build 4.37.04 on Windows 7. Thank you!

I have not found a common factor in my assets that might be causing this crash and the same sound files and FMOD projects do not crash FMOD for the other sound designer here.
I’ve made sure bit rates are consistent on projects, I’ve tried empty sound banks, sound banks with just 1 files, etc. etc.
The only constant is: building a project (even when selecting no sound banks) prevents FMOD Designer from crashing when selecting a bank in the bank tab.
I have still not been able to reproduce this crash. Unfortunately, that means I’ve been unable to identify and fix the source of the problem. Have you tried switching to a later version of Designer? It’s possible that the crash was fixed in a later version.
For the record, are you using a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows 7?
Reviving this old thread. I still get crashes on regular basis. The only fix is building the project before previewing a bank.
I’m running the 64-bit version of Windows. I’m also using the version of Designer included with CryEngine, currently 4.44.22 (Oct 7, 2013).
The same problem occurs on other machines here. Once we build, even with no banks selected, we can preview the banks with no problems. When I check out a project and related files from p4, this is the first thing that I do. The fevs and fsbs run fine in the game, it doesn’t happen all the time, files aren’t corrupted, etc. etc.

I’ve tried to reproduce the crash you described, but I’ve not succeeded yet. It’s therefore very likely that the problem only arises under very particular and unusual circumstances. What are the settings of the banks selected when the crash occurs? Precisely what changes did you make to the project before the crash? What file formats are used by the audio files in the bank that’s selected at the time of the crash?
It’s also possible that the problem is specific to certian audio files. Have you tried replacing all the audio in the crashing banks with placeholder files taken from other sources?

Currently, it happens seemingly randomly, yet consistently across a number of projects (over 10). They are all currently set to decompress into memory or load into memory, ADPCM, comprised of 16bit, 44k waves. It doesn’t make a difference if I make a change, or don’t make a change. When it does crash, it only happens when I select a bank and it tries to build the file list.
I will do more thorough testing soon to see if I can find a common factor.
