Hi,

I was working on an FDP file last night when Fmod Designer crashed and managed to corrupt the FDP file I’ve been working on making it unreadable (I’ve tried it on several different machines, all give the same error "Error reading project <project location>"). Does anyone know of any way to recover/repair a corrupt FDP file? Or (possibly a bit of a long shot) build an FDP file from an FSB and FEV file? I’ve spent a hell of a lot of time on this project and don’t really want to start again from scratch!

Any help greatly appreciated,
Dan

I can of course produce any of these files (FDP, FSB, FEV) for anyone wishing to have a look at them – the forum wouldn’t let me upload an FDP file however so it would have to be via email.

It is unfortunate to hear that your FDP got corrupted. If you send through your .FDP and also the .BAK file to support@fmod.org someone will take a look.

Hi Peter,

I managed to get hold of a backup copy from just a week ago so didn’t lose too much work. Thanks anyway!

I’m gald to hear that. We do our best to make sure our tool will not corrupt the save files but we cannot catch them all. We encourage users to to regularly back up their work.

This happens to me A LOT. Designer often crashes when displaying sound banks if I don’t rebuild banks first (I think it has something to do with Perforce management, but I’m so sick of trying to figure it out at this point). When it crashes, it can simply remove a good chunk of XML from the bottom of the fdp file. I’ve been able to reconstruct projects if I’ve done a lot of work, but there can be problems with GUIDs.
