I’m doing sound design for a machinima, I won’t have any way of changing the game’s audio. My question is, is it a viable solution to use FMOD to record the 3d atmosphere I want to portray. In order to do that I’d have to be able to take all the sounds I want and put them in a 3d environment which I could then record into a single track. Is this possible within FMOD? I’ve just taken a quick look at it, so please forgive my noobness but I saw the "fmod sandbox" which appears to be a 3d environment you can walk around. I am assuming I could take all my sounds I want place them within set areas in the soundbox and then play them back. Hopefully then, there is some way for me to record the output of those sounds.

Is there anyway to achieve this? Essentially I want to set up an entire world of audio without having to step foot into any game environment, then I want to be able to record that audio into a single track.

Thanks for any suggestions, greatly appreciated.

You can record the output of FMOD Sandbox by setting the Output Mode to "Wav writer", that will prevent output from the speakers though. Alternatively you could just capture the speaker output using the MS Wavetable Synth or something similar.
