Hi,
Occasionally we’re getting sounds not playing in our game. We can’t seem to create any reliable reproduction steps and sometimes the sounds that don’t play are streamed sometimes they are sounds that are loaded into memory. We’re using the FMOD designer event system and have update our libraries to 4.40.06. The same things seems to be happening on all 3 sku PC/XBox/PS3 with sounds not playing on rare occasions. I’ve linked with the Logging version of the fmod libraries and there are no obvious errors or warnings being spat out. A previous game using similar code did not seem to suffer from this problem and I don’t know where to look.

Any advice or debugging tips gratefully received.

I would check FMOD_ADVANCEDSETTINGS and System::setSoftwareChannels

You may have a lot of ‘channels’ (which can be virtual) but you may be running out of software mixed voices or codecs if you are using compressed sounds.
Try bumping software channels higher or codecs higher. (not all of them, just xma if you’re on 360 for example, mp3 if you’re on ps3 etc – whatever formats you are actually using.)

For designer check 2 things
1- max playbacks on your events (this probably wont be an issue if an event simply doesnt start)
2 – max streams setting in wavebank screen. This might be stopping streams starting.
