Hello,

I am looking to make an interactive music engine in FMOD. I want to be able to move through some of the song using the ‘music’ layer, and some of it using ‘event’ layer. I was wondering, is it possible to synchronise these layers?

Ideally, I want to receive a cue from the game to trigger a on-the-beat segment transition. I then want this segment transition, when it happens, to trigger a new event. Is it possible to communicate from music – to – event to do this sort of thing?

Many thanks!

AFAIK the event system is separate from the music system. I was interested in something like that with FMOD Desginer and added it to a MASSIVE list of features and bug fixes that I’ve made for them since I’ve been using Designer.

In order to do what I think you’re asking for, is to do it by CUEs. You’ll have to use the sounds in segments and themes to transition to each other or wherever you want it to.

If you wanted to trigger an event, say because there’s special things happening to that event regarding the parameter line (reverb or EQ’ing, etc) then you’ll have to trigger that through code and use the API reference to find which beat of that segment you want to trigger. I’m not a programmer, but I’ve seen xCode print the info of which beat I’m playing and which segment has started and stopped. With that info, you can trigger anything you want in code.

Where I work, anything audio wise is possible, it’s all just deducing wether it should be done (or can be done) in designer, and/or code.
