If the location of a project’s source audio files changes, FMOD Designer 2010 will have difficulties locating and playing those files.
In addition, if a project stores its source audio directory as a relative, rather than absolute, path, a similar result can occur.
Either situation (and a few others) will result in a project’s paths to audio files being broken. Such broken paths are usually displayed in red in the Banks view.
1. From the Window menu, select the ‘Project Properties’ menu item.
2. Set the ‘Audio Source Directory’ property to the new location of the project’s source audio files.
Unfortunately, this method will only work if the Audio Source Directory property was set to the source audio files’ location when the project was first created.
1. From the Project menu, select the ‘Build…’ menu item.
2. In the ‘Build Project’ window, click on the ‘Build’ button to trigger a build of the project.
3. You will be notified that some files cannot be found, and will be prompted to specify folders in which Designer will search for them. If files with the appropriate names are found in the location you specify, Designer will automatically update the project’s bank entries to point to the new locations of the files.
4. Once all files have been assigned to new paths, the build can be cancelled.
This method is preferred in most cases, as it allows for large numbers of files to be reassigned with little effort.
However, it only works if the file names of source audio files have not changed.
It should not be used in projects that include localisation unless the localised versions of audio files have different file names.
1. Manually remove and replace every single audio file in the Designer 2010 project.
This method is highly labour intensive, and is therefore undesirable in most cases.
