What is the exact content of the data returned by Channel::getWaveData, Are those the samples already played or are they next inline to be played?

Also, when I call System::playSound with pause enabled Channel::getWaveData has no data (well it has but it’s all 0) until I "unpause" the channel.
Is there a way to get the data window filled so that Channel::getWaveData returns data?

I could call Sound::readData to get those samples, however after having read the remarks on Sound::readData that doesn’t seem to be a good idea since the system is paused and ready to play.
