Hi,

I’m new to fmod and have been searching the forums but I don’t see a post on this.

I wanted to know if the itunes format m4a files will be supported soon? When I tried to load and play one it would fail while other formats like mp3s worked. I read that fmod doesn’t support m4a files- is this correct?

Thanks

We only support M4A on iOS via a native decoding library. Licensing issues make M4A unappealing on other platforms hence why we do no support the format.

Thanks very much for your response.

Can you give an example of a ‘native decoding library’ that would work with it?

Thanks

I’m not sure I understand your question, so allow me to clarify.

On iOS you can load and play M4A with FMOD (just as you would MP3), this is the only platform we support M4A on.

The way we get around the licensing issues is by having FMOD internally make use of a platform specific decoding library (for iOS we use AudioQueue). Another similar example is WMA files, which we only support on Windows via the ASF system.
