Hi, I have a surround sound music file (5.1) and I would like to set up a parameter which determines at what point in the timeline the file should start playing. What is the best way to do that?

I know how to link the parameter to a timeline with the velocity setting, but then how do I get fmod to start playing the file say from 3, 4 or 10 seconds into the file onward?

Thanks

What you want is the "Time Offset" layer effect, which allows you to specify the number of seconds into its waveforms a sound should start playing at.

Incidentally, you do not need to use parameter velocity to achieve this effect. The only thing velocity does is cause the parameter cursor to move; it doesn’t make the parameter act like a timeline in any other way. In particular, it does not cause the position of the parameter cursor within a sound instance to correspond to the part of a waveform that plays; As I’ve just mentioned, you need to use layer effects for that.

Co-incidentally, FMOD Studio does feature a timeline with in-waveform seeking. If you need that feature often, it might be worth migrating to Studio instead of using layer effects in Designer.
