I’m trying to play an .mp3 file but it plays with a hard noise. I’ve tried to play a wav and it works fine.
I’m testing with the sample project “fmodsample” that comes with the fmod package.
I’d tried with more than one mp3 and the problem persists. Also I’d tried with two PPCs: iPaq 3600 & Dell AXIM X5.
Any idea what the problem could be?

I also have problems playing mp3 files correctly with the new version of FMOD. I adjusted my calls to match the change in the api and my mp3 files play either with noise or with the audio almost like with “jumbled” samples. I believe the key to this is that I now must use the FSOUND_MPEGACCURATE to have the sample play correctly. The problem also occurs in the fmodsamplece program when I recompiled it without the FSOUND_MPEGACCURATE flag in the FSOUND_Stream_Open call. Another important point is that it matters what the compression is. In my case, Mono 22k 32 kbps fails, but the Mono 22k 62 kbps works, in both cases not using the FSOUND_MPEGACCURATE flag. Using the FSOUND_MPEGACCURATE flag slows down our response time too much, and the weaker compression adds to the file size. We are using spoken speech and we have many files. I can send to whomever my 2 files to help you confirm (they are very small, which could be another key to this problem).
(ps I have played around with the buffer size to no success)
