Hello,

Can someone tell me how to use the ghost cursor. Right now it’s more a pain then a help in my attempt to familiarise myself with the logic track. It keeps popping up somewhere in the timeline and forces a playback startpoint where i don’t want it.

Please point me out the error of my ways.

Thanks in advance

Ruud

On the timeline, the ghost cursor is the position to which you last manually moved the timeline cursor.

  • When you click the stop button while an event is playing in the editor, the event pauses.

  • When you click the stop button while an event is paused, the event stops, and the timeline cursor position is reset to the ghost cursor position.

  • When you click the stop button while an event is stopped, the timeline cursor and ghost cursor reset to the beginning of the timeline. (I suspect this will solve most of the problems you’re experiencing: When you want to stop an event prior to re-auditioning it, simply triple-click on the stop button to reset the timeline cursor and ghost cursor to the beginning of the timeline.)

On parameters other than the timeline, the ghost cursor still indicates the position to which the parameter was most recently set. However, because other parameters do not automatically advance like the timeline, in most cases the two cursors will perfectly overlap.

  • When viewing a parameter with seek speed, the parameter cursor may take some time to catch up with the ghost cursor position.

  • When changing the non-timeline parameter values of an event while the event is paused, the ghost cursor will immediately update to the new position, but the parameter cursor will not move until the event is unpaused. This accurately represents how FMOD Studio handles parameter value changes under-the-hood: Parameter values are not updated until the event is unpaused.

  • When viewing a built-in parameter, the ghost cursor may appear in a slightly different position to the parameter cursor. This is due to how built-in parameter values are updated.
