Why do Banks expand after building?

Currently, if you build a bank it expands its list of contained events.

It’s a pain if you’re attempting to iterate on content by building, tuning then building again. You need to scroll up through all the events in a bank in order to right click and build again.

It’s a especially bad with the master bank, which typically contains a large number of assets.

Is this a known bug? Is there any workaround?

Thanks!

I haven’t yet been able to reproduce this issue. What version of FMOD Studio are you using?

Hey Joseph,

1.09.05
Looks like it’s not from building the banks but making any change to an event in that bank.

I’ve pinned down an exact repro:

  • Make any change to an event which is assigned to Master Bank
  • Master Bank will expand.

This makes building just the Master banks difficult.

I’ve tried the repro steps you propose, and changing an event does not cause the associated bank to expand. However, selecting an event in the events browser may cause its associated bank to expand under some circumstances; I believe this is what you are seeing.

Building the project does not cause any bank to expand.

However, selecting an event in the events browser does cause it to be selected in the banks browser, and that in turn usually causes the bank to which it is assigned to expand.

Here are a couple of a simple workarounds for this issue:

  • Use the ‘Build…’ file menu item instead of the ‘Build…’ context menu to build your banks.
  • To scroll to the bank when an event assigned to that bank is selected and the browser has keyboard focus, tap the left arrow key once.

Right! The left arrow works great.

Unfortunately ‘Build’ will build all banks.

Would be nice if there were a user preference to not expand banks when selecting an event in the browser. Its really just a nuisance, as I cant think of any reason Id need to see all of the events in the bank view.

I’ve added “provide an option to disable expansion of banks when an event is selected” to our new feature/improvement tracker. It’ll be considered and potentially scheduled at our next quarterly roadmap meeting.

The ability to use the left arrow appears to be broken in 1.10

@AlecBrady Thanks for the bug report! I’ve added it to our bug tracker.

Incidentally, we’re more likely to see your posts if you post them as new questions. Our notification system doesn’t always ping us when a comment is added to an existing post.
